Since 2006 I’ve flown these colors, but today was for the last. To the firefighters of the San Jac, you are my friends, my brothers, my family. Yes we are a family, a highly disfunctional family but a family none the less. I have had some of the worst days of my life with you all, losing our brothers on the fireline. But yet i also have had some of the best days with you that i will always remember. Crazy situations that most people could never imagine. And other times, situations i wish i could forget. like sleeping in the dirt on some random hill, all of us around a warming fire trying to stay warm. That has happened too many times. It always makes me want to rethink my life, but so does the first hike of the season. But it is our calling, so we carry on. Anyways, the San Jac will always be where i came from and i will never forget that. I can honestly say i have learned something from all of you, even if it was how not to do something(but that was mostly from one person). I wish you all well. And as an old timer once told me “Hit it hard and keep it small.”
May the Lord bless thee
And keep thee.
See you all on the Mountain II Fire.
